Description
The Ionic Temple and Obelisk in Chiswick Park is an 18th-century circular domed brick temple featuring a tetrastyle portico. It has a stylobate with seven steps, fluted Ionic columns, and an entablature that includes a carved basso relievo frieze and a pediment. The temple also has a round-headed arch and semi-circular half-domed alcoves on the side walls. Restoration work is currently underway as of 1968. The temple is positioned facing a circular pond, which has a stone obelisk on a plinth at its center. The temple, along with Chiswick House and its garden buildings and ornaments, forms a cohesive group.
