Description
Railshead Bridge is a structure built around 1832. It features pink-yellow stock brick with a stone and render parapet cill that has cast iron strapping. The bridge has a single span with a plat-band over a double arch made of brick. The parapets curve out at both ends and end in cylindrical piers.
Historically, the bridge was constructed following the establishment of Nazareth House, which led to the closure of the riverside route connecting Isleworth and Richmond. Reflecting the Georgian architectural style, it spans the River Crane and is one of several historic crossings in the area. The cast iron strapping added to the parapet in the late 19th century is notable, as are the cast iron plaques from Middlesex County Council that warn bill-stickers of prosecution.
