Description
Sarah Sermons Almshouses is a row of six almshouses built in 1849, funded by Sarah Sermon. The building is constructed of red brick featuring decorative diaper patterns, with stone quoins and dressings. It has a gabled roof covered in plain tiles, arranged in a decorative diagonal pattern, and brick ridge stacks with stone quoining. Designed in the early Tudor style, the almshouses are single-storey and have a six-window range. Each gabled porch features moulded kneelers supporting stone coping and a blank heraldic shield above the moulded Tudor-arched doorway. The windows are three-light, cinquefoil-headed, with some retaining diamond-paned leaded lights. The gabled ends include one-light, trefoil-headed windows, positioned above a label mould framing a plaque to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
