Description
The farmyard wall to the former North Ockendon Hall dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of brick in mixed bonds, with some later repairs. The wall runs in a straight line parallel to the east-west axis of the adjoining Church of St Mary Magdalene, extending approximately 100 metres from the gate to the churchyard on the east to the line of the ancient moat on the west. It forms the southern boundary of the churchyard, varying in height from one to two metres. On the farmyard side, the ground level drops, revealing an additional one metre of the wall's structure, which features an offset base for most of its length. The return alongside the moat has been more altered. Structures built against the south face of this wall are from the 19th and 20th centuries and are not of special interest.
