Description

The Green Hill Garrison School is an early to mid-19th century building located on Hill Reach. It originally presented a road front. The main body of the building is a single-storey, 15-window range, with two-storey, single-window wings at each end. The central five-window section slightly projects forward and is topped with a pediment-like gable. The end wings have moderately low-pitched slate roofs, while the central roof has been replaced with corrugated asbestos. The building is constructed of multicoloured stock brick with dentil cornices running along the pediment. A round window sits within the tympanum. Gauged brick arches frame the sash windows, which feature glazing bars (some renewed); the windows in the central five-bay section are round-headed and set within round arched arcading. The south front is roughly symmetrical and mirrors the north front, but with a central double door and the side wings having two windows each. The east and west fronts have a five-bay central section and a single-storey entrance link leading to two-storey, three-window end wings with central doors and round arched fanlights above. The east front features a central double door with a radial fanlight.
