Description

54 to 60 Crooms Hill is a mid-18th century terrace of four-storey houses with basements, featuring three windows each. The buildings are constructed from multicoloured stock brick and have a parapet in front of a moderately pitched slate roof. A stone string course runs along the third floor, and there is a store band at ground floor level. The basement is stuccoed, and the recessed sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged, flat brick arches, although all windows have been replaced.

Nos 54 and 60 feature wooden doorcases with panelled reveals, rustications at the wall face, a keystone head, attached Doric columns, an entablature, and a pedimented cornice with mutules. No 58 has had its door replaced by a window. No 56 includes an imported Ionic porch with a panelled soffit, a moulded and mutuled cornice, and a pediment. The door has six beaded panels set in a round arched opening with a moulded architrave, impost blocks, and a keystone, along with a panelled reveal and a radial fanlight. Additionally, three windows have been inserted above the left side of the door to No 56, one on each floor. The entire terrace has been restored and converted into flats by the Beaver housing society. The listed buildings on the west side of Crooms Hill from Nos 54 to 68 are recognized as a group.
