Description
Ridge End is an irregular two-story building dating from approximately 1885, designed by William Butterfield. It stands at the junction of The Ridgeway and Windmill Hill. The building has three wide bays facing south. Construction is of coursed rubble with dressed stone quoins, window framing, and bands. Chequerwork, using alternating dressed stone and rubble, is present in the gables of the porch and the west end. The roofs are tiled and hipped, with long, hipped half-dormers breaking the eaves on the first floor. Most windows are segment-headed with chamfered reveals. A rear coach-house and a one-story link are attached. Ridge End forms a group with the Church of St Mary Magdalene and its forecourt walls.
