Description
The Crescent is an early 19th century segmental crescent located on the east side of Hertford Road in Edmonton. Constructed of brown brick, with a stucco ground floor, entablature, and blocking course, the building stands three storeys high with a basement. The central and terminal features are distinguished by giant stucco Corinthian pilasters rising from the first floor level. The central pediment contains an octagonal brick dummy lunette within its tympanum. Each house is designed with a two-window frontage, featuring a round-arched doorway and a ground-floor window. First-floor French windows, recessed within round arched panels, open onto balconies with cast iron railings, all topped by flat arches. Three end houses on the left are now demolished. The majority of windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although a few long first-floor casements remain. Some original cornices are missing and replaced with plain cemented parapets. Numbers 84 to 132 (even) form a significant group.
