Description

The Charles Lamb Halls, formerly known as the Charles Lamb Institute, are a building dating to 1908, as indicated by a plaque in the west bay. The building is constructed of stone and displays a collegiate Tudor style. The main east section is single-storey, with six bays separated by buttresses and featuring a small angle tower topped with a low spire. It has a high-pitched tiled roof and a parapet. A narrow stone and brick link connects the main section to a lower, one-bay dwelling, where the roofline descends to the eaves. To the left of this link is a further two-storey gabled bay. The building features large stone mullioned and transomed windows, with some canted bays. The rear sections are constructed of brick and are in an Arts and Crafts style.
