Description

The Park, numbers 17 to 26, is a group of houses built in 1846 by Sidney Smirke. They are rendered, with hipped slate roofs. The houses are arranged as pairs, two storeys high with a basement, and each has differing architectural details. Each house is two bays wide, with a recessed entrance wing and a window above the entrance. Numbers 17 to 20 are distinguished by giant Doric pilaster strips that run between the houses and extend to the top of the front elevation. Number 17 has been pebble dashed. Numbers 21 and 22 have modern built-out porches. Numbers 23 and 24 feature giant Ionic pilasters, while numbers 25 and 26 have rusticated quoins. The group value of these houses lies in their cohesive architectural design and historical significance.
