Description
No. 351 on Purley Way is a building dating from 1700 to 1730, featuring an altered symmetrical design over 2½ storeys. The front is finished in stucco, with a central doorcase that has a pediment and a fanlight, positioned between modern shop windows. There are five first-floor windows, which have modern sashes. The building has a steep tiled roof with three dormers. The sides and back are constructed from brick and flint. A tablet on the front notes visits by notable figures such as the Roe family, Charles Dickens, Sir John Everett Millais, Holman Hunt, and Wilkie Collins. The building is listed despite its unsympathetic alterations, partly due to its group value.
