Description
The Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels was built between 1880 and 1885 by architect J L Pearson and is a notable example of his work. The interior features brick and stone in the style of the 13th and 14th centuries, with a lofty nave, aisles, choir, and transepts, all vaulted throughout. The east end is apsidal with an ambulatory. Inside, there is a fort, a canopied pulpit, and an organ case designed by Bodley. The exterior is made of simpler brick with stone dressings, and it has small square spired towers flanking the choir, along with a short spire over the crossing. The entrance is located beneath a large brick tower that was originally intended to be topped with a tall spire.
