Description
The Church of St James, built in 1829 by Robert Wallace, is a Gothic Commissioners' church constructed from gault brick with freestone dressings. It features narrow lancet windows and a slim tower. The chancel was rebuilt in the Decorated style in 1881, designed by Charles Henman Junior. Inside, there is a reredos by Henman and four mural tablets dedicated to soldiers of the East India Company, which used this church until 1860.
