Description
The barn located to the northeast of Orange Court Farmhouse is likely from the 18th century but includes timbers from a medieval structure. A post on the east side of the main entrance doors features the carved date 1779 along with the monogram 'TP'. This traditional double-aisled barn has five bays, with the middle bay serving as a wooden threshing floor. The framing consists of four main trusses of the braced tie beam type, equipped with raking queen struts but lacking collars. The purlins are joggle-jointed and fit into the principal rafters. The aisle posts are supported by short brick piers. The exterior is covered in weatherboarding set on a brick base, and each end wall features a window with a modillioned design. The barn has a half-hipped, steeply pitched roof that is currently tiled, along with a central hipped pentice. The barn holds group value with Orange Court Farmhouse.
