Description

Stillness is a house completed in 1934, designed by architect Rolfe Gilbert Booth, and represents the Moderne Movement. The exterior features pebbledash render and consists of two storeys topped with a flat sun roof that has a metal handrail. The windows are original metal Crittall casement types with horizontal glazing bars and tiled ledges, arranged in an irregular pattern. The layout includes an integral garage on the north-west side and a terrace with steps leading to the south-east, which features a contemporary octagonal swimming pool.

The entrance front faces north-west and includes one wide window and two narrow windows above the front door, along with a tall staircase window to the right. The plain original door has a horizontally-glazed upper part and is flanked by two windows of unequal width. The garage wing features original half-glazed double doors and a flat canopy that connects the front door to the garage.

The south-westerly garden front is designed to maximize sunlight, with a projecting section on the left that has three first-floor casement windows, the end ones wrapping around the sides. This is followed by two curved sections with four curved casements, where the ground floor windows are under a flat canopy and include double French windows. To the extreme right, there is one wide casement on each floor. The terrace is attached and features metal railings and steps leading to the swimming pool.

Inside, the original layout and features are preserved, including the staircase, oak architraves and skirting boards, oak floorboards, and the original servants' bells. The living room has an original fireplace with a marble surround, while the master bedroom features an original electric fire. All original door handles, finger boards, door locks, window catches, light fittings, and switches are still intact.
