Description

The Parish Church of St Paulinus is a Grade II* listed building located on Perry Street in Crayford. The church features a nave, a west tower, and a north aisle that is as wide as both the nave and chancel, with north and south chapels. The north and west walls of the aisle date from around 1100 and are constructed with tufa blocks in the north-west quoin. The frames of the round-headed windows are from around 1200, while the majority of the windows are from the 14th century and have been renewed. The west tower was built around 1406 by John Wills and includes angle buttresses, Perpendicular tracery in its openings, and an embattled parapet. The arcade between the nave and aisle is aligned with the central axis of the chancel. The roofs of the church date to 1630, and the pulpit is also from around that time. The altar table, designed by architect James Brooks, was added in 1895. The church underwent restoration in 1862 by architect Joseph Clarke. Notable features include a monument in the north chapel dedicated to William and Mary Draper, who died in 1650 and 1652, possibly created by Thomas Stanton, along with several other significant monuments.
