Description
The building is a barn located to the northwest of the Church of St Andrew, dating from the 18th century and altered over time. It features a timber-frame structure set on a brownish-brick plinth, with tarred weather-board cladding and a plain tile roof. The barn consists of four bays and has opposing cart entries with double board doors located in the second bay from the west. There are late 20th-century smoked glass panels on each side and at the east gable end. The right bay on the north side includes a board stable door, and there are bird holes in the west gable.
Inside, many of the timbers have been replaced in the 20th century. The frame includes a sole plate, unjowelled wall posts with straight braces connecting to tie-beams, wall plate, and mid-rail. It has close-set studs, queen-strut roof trusses with high collars and yokes leading to a plank ridge, intermediate collars, staggered butt purlins, and old rafters. The western bay contains a loft. Adjacent to the barn on its west side is the site of an animal pound, believed to date back to around 1560. The barn is included for its group value only.
