Description
These are cottages located at 5-13 Denman Drive, built in 1910 to the designs of Herbert Welch. They are constructed of brown brick in English bond, featuring brick and tile insets as well as tile dressings and coping on the gables. The roof is tiled with swept, boxed eaves. The layout is L-shaped, mirroring the even-numbered cottages at 6-14 opposite, and was originally intended to be end units in a cul-de-sac, which was cut through in 1911-12. The cottages are two storeys high with scattered fenestration, and all openings have flat arches. They are designed in a simplified version of the Tudor collegiate style, making them virtually unique within the original development. The composition includes a variety of bays, gable-facing dormers, and entrances, which adds a picturesque quality. The chimneys are strategically placed for visual effect, and the glazing and doors are of an original design.
