Description

This is a house, built in 1924 to the designs of Matthew Dawson, located in the Hampstead Garden Suburb. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with brick and tile dressings, and stone insets. The roof is hipped and tiled, featuring dormers. The house is one and two storeys high.

The front elevation is dominated by a shallow, four-window canted bay in the centre of the two-storey section, with a small, flat-roofed dormer above. A tall stack rises from the rear of the roof, creating a near-pyramidal composition. The entrances are located within hipped extensions to either side of the central bay, with each door framed by pilasters made of tile. A single-storey wing extends to the rear, serving as a backdrop to the elaborate front. The design is noted for its intricate details and forms that resist easy categorization. The placement of each element is carefully considered and highlighted through the inventive use of materials. This is an exceptionally imaginative work.
