Description

Wyldes Close Corner and Motor House is a house built in 1912 by Parker and Unwin as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb. Originally known as Boundary House due to its location near the border with Hendon, it is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with a tiled roof and boxed eaves. The house is two storeys high with dormers and is designed to resemble a hall house, featuring a single-window range to the facing gable cross wing and a four-window range to the main hall. An entrance is set beneath a hipped, timber-framed porch with brick panels. High axial stacks are positioned along the front slopes and at the peak of the right return. Doors and windows are of an authentic design, with a pair of dormers incorporating swept eaves to the returns. The rear of the cross wing has a one-window range to the left and a two-window range to the hall, with a later wing added to the rear, containing a balcony dating from the 1920s. A fourth axial stack is located on the left-hand cross wing to the rear, with four dormers also present.

The motor house is an early example of its type, built with brick in Flemish bond and timber framing, featuring a tiled roof and projecting rafter ends with stucco soffits. It has two bays with plank doors and hinges in a Gothic Revival style. A small facing gable, with a timber-framed hood supported by curved braces and brick nogging, sits above the central bay. The words "Wyldes Close Corner" are inscribed on the lintel in early 20th-century lettering, and a putto sits atop the gable, although its authenticity is uncertain. A brick walk connects the house and motor house, and a semi-circular step leads to the motor house’s entrance. Wyldes Close Corner forms a group with the neighbouring houses, Far End and Gates House.
