Description

St Vincent's Convent incorporates 'Littleberries', a fine but altered early to mid-18th century red brick house. The front entrance is a three-storey, three-window centre, recessed between three-storey, two-window projecting bays. A late 18th or early 19th century Doric porch of four columns creates a loggia across the recessed centre, with a wrought iron trellis verandah above. The ground floor windows of the bays have been combined into very large windows with stucco surrounds consisting of pilasters and an entablature; these are likely 20th-century alterations. The garden front features a projecting three-window centre with a tall single-storey and basement, and an attic bullseye window within a pediment. Rusticated stone or stucco quoins appear, and the basement retains a central arch beneath a pedimented doorway on the main floor, accessed by a double flight of steps with plain wrought iron railings. The wings on either side have been modernised and extended. The interior has been much altered, but features a good mid-18th century wrought iron staircase and a plasterwork ceiling in the "Gilt Room," which includes medallion portraits of George I and other members of the Royal Family.
