Description

A terrace of houses at 2-46 Inverness Terrace, dating from around 1860, constructed in stucco. The terrace is almost symmetrical and comprises four storeys, an attic, and a basement. Most houses have two windows wide, but numbers 2, 4, 24, 26, and 28 have three bays closely spaced. Numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 24, 26, 28, 44, and 46 project slightly and feature rusticated quoins. The ground floor has channelling. The houses have projecting Doric porches and a triglyph frieze across the entire ground floor. A stucco balustraded balcony runs along the first floor. Windows are square-headed, except for those on the first floor of numbers 6, 8, 44, and 46, which are round-headed. The central houses and those at numbers 6, 8, 44, and 46 have Ionic columns between the windows. The windows have stucco architraves, and cornices are present above the first and second floors. The windows are mainly sash windows with plate glass, with first-floor French casements. The terrace has a rich dentil cornice above the third floor, which is simplified on number 24. A subsidiary cornice sits above the attic. Cast iron area railings are also present.
