Description

The balustrade with four lamp standards in front of Richmond Terrace is a Grade II listed structure, part of a development designed in 1819 by Thomas Chawner and built between 1822 and 1824 by George and Henry Harrison.

This structure serves as the northern retaining wall for a ramped carriage drive that runs the full length of the terrace. It features a long granite balustrade that curves into scrolls at both ends, consisting of groups of balusters alternating with square piers. The four central piers are topped with cast-iron lamp standards that have Neoclassical ornamentation, ladder bars, and finialed Nico lanterns.
