Description
No. 8 Hallam Mews is a mews building dating from around 1776, designed by James Adam as a stable-coach house for No. 48 Portland Place. The building is faced with stucco and has a slate roof. The mews front has been altered, while the main front, facing the rear of the Portland Place house, features a grand design with a giant order. It is two storeys high and three windows wide. The ground floor has recessed sash windows in moulded architraves with projecting cornices on console brackets, while the first floor features recessed glazing bar sashes flanking a central blind window. The window bays are defined by full-height pilasters that support a cornice and parapet, with a string course at the first floor level.
