Description

This is a grand terrace of houses located on Warwick Square in Westminster, built in the mid-19th century as part of a larger square designed from 1843. The terrace comprises numbers 1 to 23. Constructed of stucco, the buildings are uniformly two windows wide, with the central three houses and numbers 18 to 22 having three windows each. They rise five storeys above a basement level. The end pairs and the centre three houses, along with numbers 6 and 7 and numbers 18 and 19, project slightly and feature rusticated quoins. Each has a Doric porch, and a panelled front door. Balustraded balconies are present on the first floor. The windows on the first and second floors are square headed and corniced, while those to the projecting portions are topped with triangular pediments, except for the central section. Architraves frame all windows above the ground floor level. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, with French casements on the first floor. A bracketed cornice runs along the building line, though it is largely simplified and is most clearly visible on numbers 5, 17, 18, and 19. Cast iron area railings with spearheads enhance the frontages.
