Description
TQ 2978 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER ERASMUS STREET, SW1 105/32 Millbank Primary School and Playcentre, adjacent to south of Hogarth House GV II Primary school. 1901 by the London School Board architects as part of the LCC Millbank Estate. Stock brick with red brick and slight stone dressings, tiled roof. Free "Queen Anne" evolving from the Board school type established by Robson and Stevenson. 2 storey block on shallow L plan. 9 windows wide to street. Entrance in south gable end. To street the windows are grouped in threes with central broad gabled break and gabled half dormer to centre of each wing. Large 2-light glazing bar flush framed sashes. The apex of central gable has blind cusped lancet patterning in red brick, the half dormer gables are rendered with strapwork ornamented cartouches inscribed with date. The steep gable end roof is surmounted by a central bellcote-fleche. Elevations of rear range articulated by stone pinnacle-capped buttress-piers and parapeted. Included for group value, with the Millbank Estate, only.
