Description

Nos. 1-3, Eccleston Square are a group of terraced houses dating to around 1840. They are built of stucco with slate and tiled mansards. The houses are three storeys high, with an attic mansard and a basement, each being two windows wide. Each has a square-headed entrance with a panelled door. A continuous cast iron balcony runs across the first floor, though the section at No. 1 is a 20th-century replacement. The windows are square-headed, with stuccoed architraves above the ground floor. They are generally sash windows, with some French casements on the first floor, and retain some glazing bars. A dentil cornice sits above the second floor, leading to a smaller cornice for the attic, topped by a parapet. Cast iron area railings are present, with wrought iron at No. 1. The properties form part of the layout of Eccleston Square, which was planned from 1835 by Thomas Cubitt.
