Description

Fairlawn, dating to circa 1860, was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton. The house is rendered and stands two storeys high, with a three-window wide central section flanked by advanced wings. The central section features a flight of steps leading to a three-bay Ionic colonnade on the ground floor. Above is an attic with pilaster orders framing cambered-arch windows. The wings are pedimented and incorporate ground floor canted bows, each with a triplet of windows above. The building is characterised by massive stacks of linked piers crowned by pediments. Additional two-storey bays have been added to the left and right sides of the original structure.
