Description
Wandsworth Prison Governor's House, located southeast of the main gate, was built in 1849 by D R Hill. This large Italianate building features an asymmetrical design with three major bays, constructed from pale gault bricks and stone dressings. It has a high basement and a flight of steps leading to a recessed two-storey entrance. The left side of the house includes a three-storey tower with coupled sash windows, while the right side has a two-storey block with triplet sash windows. The entrance door is enclosed in a glazed lean-to porch. The windows are round-arched, with jambs, vermiculated imposts, keyblocks, and radiating glazing bars.
