Description
The windpump known as 'The Windmill' was built in 1837 to pump water back into an ornamental lake from the nearby London and Southampton Railway cutting. It is designed as a miniature smock mill, featuring a hexagonal weatherboarded body and cap set on a hexagonal brick base. Originally, before the lake was filled in 1884, which rendered the windpump obsolete, it had four double shuttered patent sails and a fan wheel mounted on the cap.
