Description

The Roehampton War Memorial is a stone structure approximately four metres tall, designed in a Tudor-esque style. It features a cross raised on a tall octagonal column, which stands on an octagonal plinth elevated by a three-stepped octagonal base. Surrounding the column are four canopied niches that contain small figurative carvings. The plinth is adorned with embattled cresting, and its faces are alternately carved with Tudor roses and shields displaying heraldic imagery. The top step bears the inscription: IN HONOUR OF / THE MEN OF / ROEHAMPTON / WHO FOUGHT / AND DIED IN / THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918.
