Description

The Church of Holy Trinity, located on Ponsonby Road in Roehampton, was built between 1896 and 1898 by architect G H Fellowes Prynne. This prominent Gothic-style church is constructed of Corsham stone rubble with fine dressings. It features a north-west tower with crocket-pinnacled angle-turrets that support a stone needle spire, which is adorned with three tiers of lucarnes. The entrance porch is integrated with the tower.

The church has a five-bay nave supported by clustered piers, with walls made of banded stone and red and yellow brick. Each bay has two splayed clerestory windows. The nave is topped with a wooden waggon roof, and the aisle roofs are wooden lean-tos. A three-light pierced stone screen leads to the chancel, which is highlighted by a traceried east window of five lights. The west end features twin traceried two-light windows with a rose window above, all designed by Kempe.

There is an apsidal north-east Lady Chapel with lancet windows, also by Kempe. The high altar is adorned with panels painted by E A Fellowes Prynne and is framed by an elaborate reredos with a crocketed stone gable. The chancel and Lady Chapel are enclosed by brass altar rails, and the church includes a fine brass lectern. A marble pulpit showcases rich cosmati work, while the south-west baptistery has a marble front with a tall Gothic-style wooden front cover.
