Description
The Grapes Public House is an early to mid-19th century building that stands two storeys high and features five windows on its main elevation facing Fairfield Street, along with two windows on the Barchard Street side. The building has rounded angles and is constructed from yellow stock brick with stucco dressings.
On the ground floor, a panelled stall riser supports an Ionic-type pilaster order and entablature, framing the Barchard Street elevation and all but the northernmost bay of the main elevation, which has a blind round-headed window. The first floor of the main elevation features three flat-headed windows with vermiculated keystones, alternating with two round-headed windows that have volute keystones and sunray glazing bars. The northernmost bay again has a blind window. The flat-headed windows are also present on the Barchard Street elevation.
At the top, a crowning cornice supports a parapet with pedestals and a balustrade, which is interrupted over the center of each elevation by a plaque displaying a painted panel with the name 'The Grapes'. On the north elevation, there are three tall round-headed windows with keystones and imposts.
