Description
South Thames College is a building constructed in 1926 by G Topham Forrest, with an extension added to the west in 1937 by E.P. Wheeler and H.F.T. Cooper. It features a steel frame construction faced with red brick and has a tiled roof. The main building has an E-shaped plan, with a block at the east corner set diagonally and topped by a pyramidal lantern roof. The structure is four storeys high, with a long blind wall to the north that masks the ground floor, while the upper storeys are recessed. The windows are rectangular with glazing bars. The design includes some vernacular details, such as dormer windows on the third floor, gables, and oriel windows above the main entrance and on the west block of the extension, as well as some modernistic elements, including a block-like central feature with geometric detail. The building remains externally unaltered from when it was originally constructed. It was formerly known as the Wandsworth Technical Institute.
