Description
The Trinity House Chain Locker and Lighthouse Block is a building from around 1860, constructed from stock brick and featuring a double gabled design with an octagonal lighthouse integrated into the east gable end, which faces the river. The building has coped parapet gable ends and squat segmental gauged brick arched windows. The south side has a raised wall with a segmental head above a blocked former large work door. There are oculi in the upper part of the gable flanking the lighthouse tower, which has recessed full-height panels framing narrow windows, with blind panels at the "third floor" level. A moulded cornice gallery encircles the base of the circular lantern. Originally, there was a similar light on the east gable. The north gabled section has the same fenestration details. This block was used as a chain locker shop for servicing Trinity House lights and ships and is still utilized for repair work.
