Description
Nos. 8 to 10 on Tower Hill are mid-19th century vaults located on three levels below the public terrace. These vaults are the remains of a warehouse that was destroyed during the Second World War. The southeastern portion features a yellow brick wall with rough granite dressings around two doorways, while the western part has been altered for a modern shop. The construction is standard fire-proof, with circular iron columns and cambered brick vaults that span between closely set beams. There is a main cross wall with five aisles in the western part, which previously supported a large warehouse. An additional gallery is present to the north, south, and west of this section. Access includes an iron spiral staircase and a plain stone stair with an iron rail.
