Description
Nos. 51 and 52 on Bankside is a terrace of two houses, originally built as three, dated 1712. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and timber details. They feature a slate mansard roof with dormers behind a rendered parapet. The houses are two storeys high with an attic; the first floor has three bays, each containing two windows.
The ground floor has been altered and includes two six-panelled doors set in timber doorcases with moulded pilasters. A continuous moulded timber cornice extends over the doors to form a canopy, which is supported by carved brackets. The ground floor also features sash windows with glazing bars and stucco sills, with the two right-hand windows being tripartite. The first-floor sash windows, also with glazing bars, have gauged, flat brick arches and stucco sills, topped with a moulded brick cornice. Notably, the first floor of No. 51 extends over the adjacent Cardinal's Cap Alley and includes a wrought-iron lamp holder. A rainwater head on the building bears a crown and the initials "BHS 1712." The interior has not been inspected.
