Description
62 Borough Road is a stonemason's premises built in 1821 by Henry Robert Hartley for his own use. The building features a unique octagonal plan, with a remaining projecting shop front and an octagonal central space that spans two floors, plus a basement beneath a pyramidal roof topped with a cupola and an urn-like finial. There is also a circular stair at the rear. A two-storey, flat-roofed, brick range at the back, which appears to have been added in the mid-19th century, consists of a single room. The surviving glazing includes margin lights in the cupola, and some 6-light sash windows are partially intact elsewhere. The building has deeply recessed bands beneath the projecting eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
