Description
The drinking fountain located in the south-east corner of Tanner Street Recreation Ground is an octagonal turret made of Portland stone. It was originally built in 1738-1739 as part of the Church of St Olave on Tooley Street. After the church was damaged by fire and rebuilt between 1843 and 1846, it was ultimately demolished in 1928 following significant public debate. The turret was relocated to its current position in 1929 when the Recreation Ground was opened.
