Description
The drinking trough is made of granite and has a narrow rectangular shape designed for horses or cattle. It is supported at both ends by square blocks. Between these blocks, resting on the ground, is a shallow trough intended for dogs. The southern end features an ogee gable with a projecting semi-circular drinking bowl for humans, along with a decorative bell-shaped spout.
On the east side of the trough, there is an inscription that reads: "METROPOLITAN DRINKING FOUNDATION AND CATTLE TROUGH ASSOCIATION." The west side bears the inscription: "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION 1888." Additionally, beneath the drinking bowl on the south side, there is the inscription: "A CUP OF COLD WATER IN HIS NAME."
