Description

This is a row of six pairs of houses, numbers 11 to 16 Church Terrace, built in the mid-19th century in the London borough of Southwark. The houses are two-and-a-half storeys high with basements, each having two windows. They are constructed of multicoloured brick with stuccoed frontages. The roofs are low-pitched and slate-covered, with three prominent brick chimney stacks. A deep soffit runs beneath the eaves, supported by long, curved brackets that extend down to a cill band on the top floor. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars; those on the first floor have moulded architraves and bracketed cills. The ground floor features a Venetian window set within a tall, round-arched recess. A ground floor band runs along the façade. A flight of eight steps leads to a four-panel double door, which has a rectangular fanlight above it, all set within a moulded architrave. The doorcase features sunk panel pilasters, a console bracketed cornice and a pediment. Number 13 has a small window inserted into the first floor. Numbers 12 and 15 have had holes pierced in their roofs to provide light to the upper floors. Numbers 11 to 16 form a group with numbers 1 to 8.
