Description

The Tomb of Admiral Bligh, located in St Mary's Churchyard, was constructed in 1817 or shortly thereafter from Coade stone. It features a tall, classical sarcophagus with a pediment on all four sides, angle pilasters, and antefixae. Atop the tomb is a large oval urn. The inscription commemorates Admiral Bligh, known as Captain Bligh of the Bounty, who famously transported the breadfruit tree from the Marquesas to the West Indies.
