Description

This is a pair of late 18th-century townhouses, located at numbers 163 to 169 Kennington Road, London. The buildings consist of two identical houses, with numbers 163 and 165 being slightly wider than numbers 167 and 169. They are constructed of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. Numbers 167 and 169 have a slated mansard roof with dormers, the dormer of number 169 being round-headed. The windows are generally set within segmental brick arches. However, the ground and first floors of numbers 167 and 169 have gauged arches, which are flat above and have an arcaded design with a stuccoed impost band. Numbers 163 and 165 have projecting, single-storey canted bays; the bay at number 163 is stuccoed and has a dentil cornice, while both bays have hipped leaded roofs. The front doors comprise four fielded panels with two beaded panels above, with a fluted architrave at number 163 and a plain architrave at number 165. They are surmounted by oblong fanlights and bracketed cornice hoods. Wrought iron handrails are present on the steps leading to the entrances. Other doorways have radial fanlights, fluted side pilasters and wrought iron rails to bridges over the areas.
