Description
The main building of Richard Atkins Junior Mixed and Infants School was constructed in 1897 by T B Bailey and is designed in the Queen Anne style. It is built from red brick with stone dressings. The central section facing the playground has five bays and three storeys, each featuring a cornice. The first floor includes a blind arcade that encloses tall windows, while the top storey is topped with a shaped parapet. Flanking this central section are two six-storey staircase towers, each crowned by concave pyramidal roofs and corner turrets. At both ends of the front, there are three-storey, three-bay sections under shaped gables. The left section is separated by a lower five-storey, four-bay section that has small windows and a shaped parapet.
