Description

A terrace of dwellinghouses dating from around 1840. Numbers 34 to 56 form one of three balanced blocks, originally of three storeys and basements, with a fourth storey added to the central group (numbers 43 to 47). Each house is two windows wide. The buildings are constructed of yellow brick, with stucco applied to the ground floor. Stucco cornices and blocking courses are present above the second floor. The ground floor windows are arched, while those above have square heads. The houses in the four-storey section have architraves to the first and second floor windows; the others have gauged arches. Iron balconies are positioned at the first floor level. Number 56 has a two-storey, single-window extension. Area railings are also present. The terrace is part of the layout of Paultons Square. A garden wall at the rear of numbers 13 to 25 on the west side serves as a boundary wall with Allen Hall, Beaufort Street; further details are available under the Beaufort Street listing.
