Description

This is a terrace of large houses located at 69-72 Princes Gate, dating from the late 1860s and built by C J Freake, who acted as both builder and developer. The terrace comprises five storeys plus a basement, with each house featuring three windows. The architectural style is Classical. The facades are stuccoed, with channelling on the ground floor. A continuous balustraded parapet, projecting over Doric porches, runs along the first floor. The first floor windows are framed by Corinthian columns. Balustraded balconies are present on the second-floor windows. Cornice hoods shelter the windows of the second and third floors, with the central window on the second floor topped by a pediment. The building features a rich frieze and a bracketed cornice. Later 20th-century additions to the rear are not of architectural interest.
