Description
Nos 57 to 62 Stanhope Gardens is a terrace of houses built around 1870. The buildings are constructed of brick with stucco fronts featuring rusticated quoins. They rise five storeys high, with each house having a three-window range on the upper floors. The design includes advanced Doric porches and a ground floor with channelled rustication. There are canted bay windows that extend through the ground, first, and second storeys, also featuring channelled rustication. A balustrated balcony on the first floor projects over the porches. The windows are fitted with plate-glass sashes. A main modillion cornice is present above the third floor, topped by a parapet. The terrace is complemented by cast-iron area railings. This group of houses is listed for its architectural significance and its contribution to the overall character of Stanhope Gardens and the nearby houses on Cromwell Road.
