Description

Numbers 347 to 365 (odd) and the attached railings comprise a terrace of early 19th-century houses. The construction is primarily yellow brick in Flemish bond, with some stucco facing. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, with two windows each. Number 347 has a stuccoed basement and ground floor, the latter rusticated, with moulded stucco architraves over all openings. Number 365 features a projecting, single-storey shop front, probably dating to the 19th century. Round-arched entrances, with gauged brick heads and fluted quarter columns, are present at numbers 347 to 351, while numbers 353 to 363 have plain pilaster jambs. Fanlights are above the doors; original panelled doors are found at numbers 347 to 351, with two narrow panels each, while those at numbers 353 to 363 have the same feature. The entrance to number 355 includes additional pilasters and a cornice on consoles, all in stucco. Ground-floor windows at numbers 347 to 351 are round-arched, while those at numbers 353 to 363 are flat-arched. Number 355’s ground-floor window has an architrave and cornice on consoles. A storey band is found at numbers 351 to 363. Upper-floor windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads; the first-floor windows have cast-iron balconies set within a recessed round-arched panel with a gauged brick head. A stucco band is situated below the parapet at numbers 353 to 355. Cast-iron railings are present to the area.
