Description

A former public house, dating to the late 19th century, with the ground floor pub frontage likely dating to around 1900. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and possibly stucco to the pub frontage, and has mansard roofs covered in Welsh slate.

The building is four storeys high, with an irregular arrangement of windows. The ground-floor pub frontage projects beyond the right-hand return. It has two elliptical-arched entrances at either end, now blocked, and a central flat-arched entrance flanked by Corinthian pilasters and consoles. To either side of the central entrance are two canted bays with original panelled dadoes and glazing bars. A fascia runs above the central entrance and bays. Above the end entrances is an arrangement of three engaged Corinthian columns supporting an entablature and broken pediment over a grille of decorative wrought ironwork and plaster ornament depicting laurel sprays. The upper floors have segmental-arched windows to the first and second floors, and two flat-arched windows under a relieving arch to the third floor, all grouped under a shaped and pedimented gable on the left-hand side of the facade. Decorative aprons are present to the second and third floors, and a moulded stone storey band runs along the facade. The right-hand bay is blank except for one segmental-arched window to the second floor, with a decorative apron. An eaves cornice of stone is visible. The right-hand return has four segmental-arched windows to the first floor (the second is blank), and three flat-arched windows to the second floor, also with aprons (the first two being blank). Decorative iron cresting adorns the roof.
