Description

Two terraced houses located on Chadwell Street, built between 1828 and 1829, with 19th-century shop fronts altered in the 20th century. Designed by William Chadwell Mylne, who served as Surveyor for the New River Estate. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick laid in a Flemish bond, featuring wooden shop fronts on the ground floors. The roofs are not visible, and there are party-wall brick stacks.

The design incorporates a side-hall entrance plan for the ground-floor shops, leading to domestic accommodation on the upper floors. Each house is three stories high and has two windows per floor. The left-hand side features shop windows and glazed shop doors, articulated by console-bracketed pilasters that support a fascia and projecting cornice. House entrances, dating to the 20th century, are on the right side, with doorways having plain jambs, corniced heads, plain rectangular overlights, and 20th-century panelled doors. The upper floors have 6/6 horned sash windows with gauged-brick flat arches, with the first floor having full-length windows. There has been some rebuilding on the upper floors and to the side wall of number 2. The building is topped with a plain brick parapet with stone coping.
